First Friday Poughkeepsie
A monthly event that has been described as a “movement” for the City of Poughkeepsie! First Friday Poughkeepsie is a city-wide celebration held on the first Friday of every month from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and aims to increase awareness of the City and showcase it as a thriving, safe, and attractive place to live and do business.
History of First Friday Poughkeepsie
It was 2016 and the conclusion of Rob's first week at City Hall, after being elected Mayor, Anne Saylor and his transition team surprised him with celebratory cake and that is when First Friday was born. Rob campaigned on three issues: Safer, Cleaner, & Stronger all while working to create a "buzz" in the City of Poughkeepsie. A buzz that would fill the streets, restaurants and shops with happy people, enjoying all the Queen City has to offer. On Friday, April 1, 2016, we launched the first First Friday kickoff at The Bardavon 1869 Opera House. It was a tremendous success!
By our one-year celebration in 2017, we knew that we needed help to bring this movement to the next level and we are extremely thankful for that help from our First Friday PK sponsors, Mike Quinn of Rhinebeck Bank, the Baxter family of Baxter Built, and Joe Lapore of LCS facility group. These folks have taken this under their wing along with Bianca Hendricks of RSVP by B, and the entire FF committee. More importantly, thank you to those who come out to have fun and support our great city and this movement. The original goal was to market to the 600 plus downtown employees to keep them in the City of Poughkeepsie on a Friday evening for fun and now we all dance in the streets with friends from many different surrounding areas.
First Friday is better than ever…be a part of the buzz and join us!
Mayor Rob Rolison and Lori Rolison
First Friday is being presented in partnership by Rhinebeck Bank, LCS Companies, and R.L. Baxter Building Corporation. Additional support has been provided by Royal Carting, Poughkeepsie Journal Media, and iHeart Media of the Hudson Valley (96.1 KISS FM).
These local businesses have taken the lead in the First Friday initiative and thus making the City of Poughkeepsie a better place to live, work, stay and play.
